Dario Franchitti has his third Indianapolis 500 victory. The Scottish driver started 16th in today’s 96th running of the Indianapolis 500 but ended first, holding off a furious charge by Japan’s Takumo Sato on the final lap to win a back-and-fourth, gripping edition of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. With a lap to go, Sato went for it, bolting for the inside and the lead. But he lost control of this car and spun out. Franchitti swooped by and won under caution. It’s his third win at Indianapolis. He also claimed victory in 2007 and 2010. (via Indy 500: Dario Franchitti wins his 3rd 500-Mile Race at IMS | Indianapolis Star | indystar.com)
